Must Have’s For Every Guest Room Design
Quality Bedding/Throw
A successful guest bedroom design will make your guests feel welcome and comfortable. Nothing is more inviting and cozy than a beautiful, soft bed. I think that bedding is the place to splurge a little bit when it comes to your guest room!
Pro Tip: Select bedding that is machine washable, so that it is easy to reset your guest room when your visitors head back home. When you can, opt for a luxury quilt instead of a duvet.
2. Storage Piece
For many families, it simply isn’t realistic to have the guest room closet empty year round, and that’s ok! However, it is crucial to give your guests a dresser, armoire, or other storage solution so that they can unpack. It’s difficult to truly feel “at home” in someone else’s home when you’re living out of a suitcase.
My Guest Room Favorites collection has storage pieces large and small, so that you can find the perfect piece to complete your guest room.
3. Table Lamp
Every guest room must have at least one table lamp (or standing lamp) beside the bed. Remember, your guests aren’t used to this space. Having a light source that is easy to access from the bed will help them avoid the dreaded shin-to-bed-corner collision. Plus, they can read in the evenings and enjoy the cozy bed you worked so hard to design!
4. Mirror
Make sure to have a mirror in every guest room in your home. This will help your visitors feel comfortable knowing that they won’t need to “hog” to the bathroom every time they’d like to freshen up. Luckily, there are plenty of gorgeous mirrors out there that double as stylish decor! I’ve included some stunners in my Guest Room Favorites collection. Check them out.
5. Basket or Hamper
As a guest, it can be awkward to feel like you’re creating clutter in someone else’s home. Providing your visitors with a large basket or hamper will allow them to stash dirty laundry, shoes, or other belongings that they are hoping to stash out of sight.
My Guest Room Favorites collection has all of the essentials you need to put together a comfortable, inviting guest room for your friends and family.
Bonus? Many pieces are in stock and ready to ship!
Nice-To-Have’s For Your Guest Room(s)
Vase
Placing some fresh cut flowers out for your guests is sure to make them feel extra special and cared for. I would not recommend a clear glass vase in the guest room, because you will need to clean/dust it before guests arrive. Instead, look for pottery or colored glass that will hide imperfections.
Dish For Jewelry
A pretty dish or tray will give your guests a reliable place to keep keys, jewelry, and other valuables. Plus, small accessories like these give you an opportunity to infuse your unique style into your guest room decor.
Wastebasket
Just like the hamper I listed as must have above, putting a trash receptacle in the guest room means that your visitors will never have to worry about what to do with their clothing tags, nail clippings, snack wrappers, or other trash that tends to accumulate during a trip.
Pro tip! Look for a wastebasket with a lid or cover to make your guests feel even more comfortable. I’ve included some options in my Guest Room Favorites collection, here.
Candle
Who doesn’t love candles?? A nice-smelling candle and a pretty box of matches puts the cherry on top of any guest room.
Variety of Pillows
This might sound a little bit strange, but I recommend mixing up the kind of pillows on your guest bed(s). Provide a firm and a soft option so that everyone is extra comfy! People are surprisingly particular when it comes to pillows.
There you have it!
In just 5 key pieces, you can design a comfortable and inviting guest room. Then, add in a few special touches to bring the space together.
