3 Ways To Make Your Room Feel Bigger

Having a small space does not mean that it has to feel cramped or limited! Check out my top 3 tips for expanding even the smallest of rooms!

  1. Light Colors - It is well known that lighter tones create a spacious feel. But this doesn’t just apply to paint! Try replacing dark curtains with light and bright ones or switching out a few textiles with softer colors will lengthen your visual plane, creating a spacious feeling. My favorite is Boxwood Interiors Slipper Satin No. 2004. This color often reads as a pale grey chalk which makes for a perfect neutral on walls with darker Old White woodwork and will match with existing furnishings. Click here to check it out!

  2. Add Reflective Surfaces - Mirrors are perhaps the easiest way to bring in lots of light and trick the eye into thinking a room is larger and more open than it actually is. Using a mirror with rounded edges can also soften a space and break up the planes of a room. I love the Barron Mirror from McGee & Co! Click here to check it out!

  3. Tall Furniture Can Add “Height” - Bringing bookcases or cabinets all the way to the ceiling can give the appearance of a taller space. You can also achieve the effect with vertical shiplap or hang a bare hanging bulb from the ceiling.  If you have tall ceilings, take your wall hangings all the way up to emphasize the height. Anything you can do to draw the eye up can help make the space feel more roomy.  I just adore this bookcase from Noel Furniture right here in Houston! Click here to check it out!
